My parents bought this 1982 Rabbit Diesel in about 1987 from the neighbor up the street who bought it new. My parents sold it to me when I was of driving age. I drove this for 7 years and did a lot to it. I got another car and this sat for about 23 years. I put about 1000 miles on it in those 23 years.

Bring a trailer and bring a truck. Take it all for $1.00 (one dollar)
The GOOD:
Runs and drives and stops.
Clean Title.
145K miles.
Original 1.6L NA diesel engine. Runs great. Only synthetic since 99K miles 30 years ago. I start up the engine about every six weeks for the past 23 years.
Rebuilt 4-speed transmission with about 20K miles on it. Purchased from GEX International. Installed myself in 1998. Only used REDLINE MTL in it.
Original gear ratios.
Installed 200mm clutch at same time of transmission install.
New front axles installed about 20K miles ago by me.
New head gasket installed around 120K miles by dealership.
New timing belt installed around 15 years ago with about 500 miles on it.
Neuspeed SPORT springs, stock height. About 25K miles on them.
BAE Turbo kit installed 20K miles ago in 1998 by myself.
Custom exhaust with Cherry Bomb resonator and Cherry Bomb chambered muffler. I think it is 2-1/8" diameter. (no rust because diesel soot)
ADDCO sway bar
A-arm cross brace
Original 13" wheels with spare tire in trunk
GTI front brake calipers with vented ATE rotors have about 20K miles.
Rear drums with new wheel bearings have about 20K miles.
45mpg city / 55mpg highway
All lights work. Wipers work. Defroster works.
All locks are same key.
I have been using REDLINE diesel fuel additive since at least 1998.
Has original steering wheel. I put the 3-spoke steering on.
Installed new glow plugs and water pump about 10 years ago. Less than 500 miles on them.
The BAD:
Some rust.
Driver door dinged back in the late 80's.
The windows are hard to roll up.
I made a custom headliner. Did not finish the sunroof part.
The interior door grabs are off. I do have new internal plastic nuts/threads for them. Never got around to putting them in.
The lower part of the doors were resprayed by I think the dealership before original purchase. The paint has been flaking away since 1989.
Air Conditioning does not work. Never converted.
Transmission housing is not from 1982, it is the earlier version without the upshift light switch.
No radio. The KENWOOD pictured is not for sale. I have not finished taking the radio out, that's why the pics show the dash apart.
Steering column bearing is being held up with a hose clamp.
Tires have date code from 1995.
The battery is old, but starts fine.
Rear hatch shock won't stay up.
I replaced the carpet in 1998. I sprayed air freshener on it and it turned it orange in some spots. :(
The rear drums are dragging. It just started when I went to go get diesel for it. I don't have the time to backup the star nut with a screwdriver through the lug nut bolt hole. The drums, bearings and shoes and hardware inside I replaced about 20K miles ago. It would be a shame to burn up the drums with it being driven or dolly'd.
Car is drivable, but I insist you have a flat bed to take it.
The BAE Turbo Kit uses a RAJAY Turbo. There is no waste gate. Boost is linear. At full tilt, boost is about 6 psi. At 60 mph cruising in 4th gear, boost is about 1.5 psi. According to the magazine tests, it improved its 0-60mph time from 26 seconds to 20 seconds. Stock horsepower was 52hp. With the turbo it is about 60hp. It makes a huge difference, night and day. In the parts section I have one BRAND NEW never installed BAE intake manifold and one used intake manifold. Two RAJAY turbos, a BAE exhaust manifold, modified oil pan for oil return line, the valve cover recirc intake and connector for turbo to manifold.
